Helicopter Patrols

LandSheriffs are working in partnership with the Network Rail Helicopter Unit and their dedicated team to provide a security strategy for patrols.

Controlling and coordinating movements of the helicopters, patrol vehicles and staff on the ground LandSheriffs efficiently protect and patrol key locations pinpointed and highlighted by LandSheriffs teams from the air.

Using the helicopters state of the art imaging equipment, operated by a Network Rail trained observer, LandSheriffs can pinpoint and scramble units to suspicious activity spotted from the sky with unparalleled accuracy and speed.

Covert Equipment

LandSheriffs have teamed up with one the UK’s leading designers and creators of state of the art, covert and special operations equipment. LandSheriffs are at the forefront of the implementation of this technology and understand the importance of the role in the continuing and evolving fight
on crime.

LandSheriffs Special Ops personnel are fully trained in the deployment and set up of these devices - regardless of terrain or circumstance, with the technology used - including GPRS positioning and txt alerts systems, to more advance alert systems such as live 24/7 email alerts.

Alerts are sent from these units directly to LandSheriffs handheld, wireless devices showing detailed images to assist teams in the assessment of situations and for an instant response by LandSheriffs personnel 24 hrs a day 7 days week.

SmartWater

LandSheriffs have been the driving force in the implementation and use of SmartWater across the HS1 Network, LandSheriffs Special Ops personnel are trained in the deployment of SmartWater and are issued with UV torches to detect and pinpoint exposure.

This is a huge step forward in the fight against crime as SmartWater is more robust than DNA-based products and is virtually impossible to remove completely. SmartWater can conclusively prove ownership and maintains a 100% conviction rate when used as evidence in court.

Security Train

LandSheriffs run a Security Train on the HS1 Rail Network, another specialist security deterrent devised and implemented by LandSheriffs. These patrols are conducted in a non linear basses and are run in conjunction with our Mobile Teams.

Special Ops personnel aboard the MPV scan the surrounding area with high powered Xenon Torches for potential security threats, these range from holes in fences through to suspects on the line. LandSheriffs run ‘Personal Track Safety Training’, completed by all staff, so teams can disembark the train safely and investigate the scene further.

Case Study - Anti Terror
LandSheriffs patrol of the HS1 Network covers some of the most sensitive parts of the UK rail network, these areas are hotspots for potential terrorist attacks and theft.

The vigilance of our Mobile Teams looking for potential Terrorist activities has lead to several, potentially large thefts, being prevented. Teams have stopped numerous individuals whom they suspected of performing hostile reconnaissance of the HS1 Network and taking photographs, and, in several instances, the Police were contacted to interview suspects and to search them and their vehicles.

In one instance, early in 2008, a Mobile Patrol unit spotted a vehicle which had trespassed onto HS1 property, the team approached the vehicle and informed the driver that he had strayed onto private property. The suspect apologised and informed the team that he had taken a “wrong turn” and promptly left the area, the team filed a detailed report of the incident which was processed by LandSheriffs Intelligence Bureau. This new intelligence given to all future patrols so they could be on alert for the vehicle, which would enable them to be able to react more efficiently to the suspect if spotted again.

Six months later the vehicle was spotted by LandSheriffs Supervisor unit just a few miles from where it was first approached. Armed with intelligence from the previous patrol the team were able to remind the suspect that he had been cautioned for trespass before. They supplied the exact time and location of the previous incursion and told him that his description and vehicle details were logged, and that continued trespass would not be tolerated.

LandSheriffs believe that this individual was conducting hostile reconnaissance of the area for security patrols and weaknesses in the fixed security, with the intention of returning to steal cable from HS1 property. Informed that he was being watched the suspect fled and has not returned to the area.

Deployment of Signs
LandSheriffs have designed, created and manufactured hard wearing security signs incorporating the SmartWater warning and branding along with emergency contact numbers and illegal trespass notice. These signs are bespoke to the client and are solely for use on the infrastructure of the HS1 network.

LandSheriffs have so far deployed 20% of the signs which need to span an area of 216 KM of operational fencing. Our ambitious target is to have a sign every 30m to boost our visual presence and to leave no doubt that the area is protected and patrolled by LandSheriffs.

Additional Training
In an ever changing world thieves and terrorists are creating and evolving new techniques, strategies and targets.

LandSheriffs recognise this and send staff on regular specialist training courses, these enable them with the skill set to react, respond and resolve situations that they face during their duties.

All LandSheriffs staff are trained in the fundamentals of First Aid and Fire Fighting and all patrol vehicles are equipped with First Aid and Fire Extinguishing equipment, all of which exceeds the standards required by UK law.

Intelligence Bureau
LandSheriffs have developed & implemented a unique in-house Intelligence Bureau. This Bureau processes information gathered by our teams, which is then cross referenced for patterns or similarities. This intelligence is then passed onto patrol teams so they can detect and react to incidents more efficiently, it is also used extensively by the BTP.

LandSheriffs hold all data gathered by the Bureau in accordance to Purpose 1, Crime Prevention and Prosecution of Offenders, in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Information we collect is stored and used for intelligence gathering purposes only, this information is invaluable in the fight against crime and helps keep LandSheriffs one step ahead.

    Investigations

LandSheriffs specialist, Investigative personnel conduct follow up inquiries in local areas and within the community. Gathering intelligence, whenever necessary, from local residents, businesses and community groups and meeting places, teams quickly build a picture of who or whom is committing crimes against our clients. This information is transmitted to our in-house Intelligence Bureau for processing and collating, then issued to our teams enabling them to track and position suspects and potential problem hotspots. We use a 'Traffic Light' system to highlight the level alert for each report, this ensure teams are aware of the most high priority cases and respond appropriately.

These investigations have enabled key information to be gathered and acted upon. Investigative teams have had significant and constant success in stopping prolific organised criminals including graffiti gangs, fly tippers, thieves, vandals and attempted arsonists, their efforts have lead to the arrests and the prosecution of many offenders.

LandSheriffs work hard on building relationships with local communities, neighbourhood businesses and groups, we understand the importance of these relationships and how they can improve the service we offer. These close ties with the community have enabled use to construct a substantial network of contacts who supply us with data on a daily basis.
