Three Arrested for Firearms Offences on HS1

In November 2009 Ebbsfleet CTRL covert pro-active team officers were out conducting patrols when they came across a suspicious vehicle. Upon closer inspection, they found a rifle and alerted local firearms officers, who responded along with a dog-unit and helicopter.
Ebbsfleet officers secured the scene with the help of LandSheriffs staff, and three men were subsequently arrested for firearms offences and trespass.
Inspector Stuart Downs, officer in charge at Ebbsfleet International, said that as a result of pro-active community engagement at Fawkham Junction, near to Ebbsfleet station, including information provided by LandSheriffs, there has been an increased flow of intelligence which has identified wildlife crime as an issue.
“The HS1 line is a ‘peopleless’ railway due to the dangers presented by the high speed trains, and the line runs through predominantly rural areas,” said Insp Downs. “It’s a haven for wildlife and has a number of environmentally sensitive areas which can attract criminality - whether that be from poachers using firearms trackside, the potential for poachers to be struck by a train or even the targeting patrols.”
