SIA Audit
Posted by: News Desk 08.04.11
LandSheriffs have, after a very grueling audit by the SIA last week (Security Industry Authority), managed to accomplish a score that puts us in the top 10% of SIA approved contractors.
Within the top quartile of approved contractors is the top 10% which is achieved with a score of 99 points; LandSheriffs scored 103 (it is our understanding that there are approximately 655 approved contractors with 1350+ prospective contractors, with only 85 making the top 10%!). It is only large security companies that can achieve this, normally as a results of elements such as an HR department involvement etc, which we do not have.
To give an indication of how difficult it is to achieve what we have, approved contractors can have a score of zero, just to get the licence (which is considered a good score).

December was one of the coldest on record with major disruption to the Eurostar due to the snow, with close to 6000 people stranded for up to 3 days and 2 nights.
LandSheriffs were requested to attend St. Pancras to assist with crowd management, Teams helped manage the 2 mile queue, road crossings, queue jumping, pick-pocketing and insured the most vulnerable in the queue were boarded first.
We have received numerous emails and personal thanks from NR (CTRL), HS1, BTP and Camden Council for the efficient & professional work.
3 Years for Cable Thief
Posted by: News Desk 11.08.10
After an extensive covert and overt operation a 41-year-old man, David Woodard, has been jailed for three years for stealing railway cabling from High Speed 1.
David Woodard, of Crouch Avenue, Barking, was the subject of an investigation by LS after he was identified as a possible suspect via a covert operation. Woodward was disturbed during an attempted theft, when he set off lineside alarms and, although he escaped, forensics discovered and secured by LS proved that Woodard was at the scene.
He was finally caught after he triggered an alarm in the Creekside viaduct area in January 2010, which alerted a LandSheriffs team. After a search of the area LS Teams had him surrounded, hiding in a bush, with a torches covering his position. A Police Dog was requested which discovered a pair of bolt croppers and a pair of gloves near where Woodard was hiding as he was taken into custody.
Around 300 metres of cable was also recovered. Woodard has been charged with attempted theft, criminal damage and endangering safety on the railway, to which he pleaded guilty.

Thanks to LandSheriffs continued and innovative use of technology and Mobile Patrol Units another cable theft has been prevented from HS1 (NR) CTRL Ltd's infrastructure.
A movement sensing 'trembler' device alerted Mobile Teams to an illegal entry and the closest Patrol Unit was dispatched to investigate.
On arrival they discovered a suspect trying to steal cable, using Xenon torches the Mobile Team were able to safely track the suspect as they fled and tried to hide. BTP and Police were informed and a Police Dog Unit was dispatched and apprehended the suspect and tools that he had discarded whilst fleeing.
One man was arrested and is under investigation.
